The Elgin Community College Arts Center’s spring performance is Ken Ludwig’s “The Game’s Afoot or Holmes for the Holidays.” Patrons have six opportunities to see the play, which will take place in the SecondSpace Theatre, located in Building H, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin, on the following dates and times:

Friday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, May 1 at 3:00 p.m.

Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, May 8 at 3:00 p.m.

The play provides both mystery and high hilarity in equal parts. “With everything going on in the world, I decided what we all needed more than anything was a good laugh and possibly a good murder mystery,” said Susan A. Robinson, associate professor of theatre and play director. “The play is funny and intricately constructed; it makes you laugh and keeps you guessing every moment.

In 1936, Broadway star William Gillette, admired for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, invites fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for the weekend. When one guest is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. Robinson and the cast enjoyed visiting a former era and learning more about the play's period. “I think everyone will have a great time. I know the production staff and the actors are enjoying themselves immensely, and of course, we think the audience will too,” said Robinson.
