Elgin Community College baseball player Sam Bonick was named an Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) Dick Durrant Sophomore Academic Athlete of the Year Winner.

This prestigious award is given annually to the ISCC male and female student-athletes with the highest grade point average after four semesters. Bonick is one of six male athletes in the conference that maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout their college career.

The award is named after Dick Durrant, who was a teacher, coach, and athletic director at Elgin Community College from 1961 through 1985. Durrant championed the philosophy of academic as well as athletic excellence while at Elgin.

In the 2022 baseball season, Bonick played 6.1 innings in seven-game appearances and registered seven strikeouts.

ECC athletics returned to the Division II level this past year, and student-athletes can now receive athletic scholarships. To learn more about ECC athletics and available scholarships, visit elginspartans.com.
