The Elgin Community College Arts Center's summer production “Little Shop of Horrors” will be performed from July 29 through August 7 in the SecondSpace Theatre. Located on Elgin Community College’s campus in Building H, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Performances take place on:

Friday, July 29 at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, July 31 at 3:00 p.m.
Friday, August 5 at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, August 6 at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, August 7 at 3:00 p.m.

Patrons should expect hilarity and horror as they watch Seymour Krelborn, a meek floral assistant, stumble across a new breed of plant he names Audrey II—after his coworker and crush. The directing team, led by Cale Haupert, and the cast approached this production with enthusiasm and amazing work ethic, according to Music Director and ECC faculty member Marc Beth. “The cast has embraced the challenges of this show tremendously,” said Beth. “Working with them has been an amazing experience, as they each bring something unique to their roles, whether they are a lead role or a crucial supporting character. Or, in some cases, multiple characters!”

Beth hopes the audience will remember two key takeaways about the play: this is not the movie. “The movie is based on the stage musical, but the stage musical itself is based on a 1960 film of the same name. The stage musical has a different ending, in fact, compared to the musical movie,” said Beth. Secondly, this show features a giant puppet with a real actor inside (although the voice is provided by a different actor offstage). “Syncing these two elements is a real challenge, and both are to be commended!”

Tickets to “Little Shop of Horrors” are $20 for adults and $18 for students and seniors. “Little Shop of Horrors” is presented through special arrangements with Music Theatre International (MTI). MTI also supplies all authorized performance materials.
