The Community College District 509 Board of Trustees has appointed Sergio Rodriguez to fill the trustee seat vacated by Jeffrey Meyer, JD, who resigned on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2021. Rodriguez, of Pingree Grove, was selected unanimously at the board’s Wednesday Jan. 26, 2022 special meeting. His appointment will last until the next consolidated election on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

“We appreciate the interest from several members of our community to serve and represent our students and community on the District 509 board,” said Jennifer Rakow, chair of the board of trustees. “After considering all candidates thoroughly, we are excited to announce Mr. Sergio Rodriquez’ appointment to fill the vacant seat. A veteran and distinguished ECC alumnus, Mr. Rodriguez is also a member of the Elgin Community College Foundation Board. Mr. Rodriguez’s strong business acumen and deep ties to ECC and the broader community make him an excellent addition to the District 509 Board of Trustees.”

Rodriguez is Vice President of IT and Marketing for KCT Credit Union in Elgin, where he leads continuous business improvement focused on enhancing revenue and streamlining business operations. After four years in the United States Marine Corps, he began his career at KCT Credit Union as a Systems Administrator in 2003, and continued to advance to his current role in 2015.

Rodriguez is completing his Bachelor of Arts from Northern Illinois University. He is also a graduate of Elgin Community College, where he received an Associate of Arts in business and managerial economics in 2010. While at ECC, he was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and earned his degree with high honors. In 2021, Rodriguez was appointed to the Board of Directors of the ECC Foundation. With his appointment to the District 509 Board of Trustees, Rodriguez will resign his position on the ECC Foundation Board. He is also currently Board President for Centro de Información, a non-profit social services agency serving the Hispanic community of the northwest suburbs of Chicago.

“I am honored and privileged to be appointed to the ECC Board of Trustees. I look forward to working with the trustees and ECC President, Dr. Sam, to continue to serve our diverse communities. Elgin Community College is an amazing educational institution and an important asset to our communities.”

After Meyer resigned, the board announced the process to fill the vacancy and the criteria for candidates. Candidates were required to be a citizen of the United States, 18 years of age or older and a resident in Community College District 509 for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment. Further, candidates were required to submit a current resume with a letter explaining why they wished to serve as a trustee. The deadline to apply was Friday, Jan 21, 2022.
