2020 - Two ECC basketball players reach 1,000 career points within weeks of each other

On Saturday, Feb. 1, Mariel Franco became the second ECC basketball player to reach 1,000 career points this year. Men’s basketball player Kelvin Cortez-Harvey achieved this same feat just a few weeks prior.

Sophomore Franco scored her 1,000th point during a home game against Waubonsee, one of 36 points she racked-up during the game. Cortez-Harvey scored his milestone bucket on Jan. 16 against Morton on a 3-pointer.

Both players are featured in stories posted by the Elgin Courier-News. Franco was profiled the day before her historic basket. (Read article here). Sophomore Cortez-Harvey was recognized on Jan. 17 (Read article here). Both are graduates of St. Edward Catholic High School, Elgin.
