Long Red Line Juried Art Exhibit

The 2020 Long Red Line Juried Art Exhibit at Elgin Community College is now viewable via a 360-degree virtual experience. Postponed initially in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the exhibit, which is on display in ECC’s E. Max Von Isser Art Gallery, is accessible at bit.ly/ECCGalleriesLRL until Friday, Nov, 13, 2020. ECC’s campus remains closed to the general public.

The Long Red Line is Elgin's expression of One Billion Rising, a global movement of women and their allies rising to end rape, violence, interpersonal domination, and oppression against women. Please be informed that this exhibit contains sexual imagery, which may trigger negative emotional responses to survivors. Should you need support, ECC students can call the ECC Student Wellness Services at 847-214-7390; anyone in the community can contact the Community Crisis Center in Elgin at 847-697-2380.

The show and virtual experience were curated by ECC Art Gallery Curator Juan Fernandez from pieces selected by the 2020 Juror, Erin Rehberg, Founder/Executive Director of Side Street Studio Arts. The 29 artworks from 23 artists includes submissions from ECC students, alumni, employees, and community members and represent the Long Red Line's mission and the 2020 theme of Rise. Empower. Unite.

Rehberg also selected the exhibit award winners:

3rd Place: Worried by Deyana Matt, ECC Employee

2nd Place: Hungry by Maryellen Newton, Community Member

1st Place: Sticks and Stones by Rachel Taylor, ECC Employee

BEST OF SHOW: Hearing Tears by Marisol Cervantes, Community Member

Prizes for the winners were generously donated by Blick Art Materials, Arabica Café, Blue Box Café, Trickster Gallery, Great Frame Up, Side Street Studio Arts, ReproGraphics, Craft Donuts + Coffee, Nancy Merkling Productions, and Vicki Rae Harder-Thorne.
