For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Illinois Robotics will hold 2020 Illinois FIRST Tech Challenge Championship Tournament at Elgin Community College on Friday, February 21 and Saturday, February 22. The tournament will take place in Building J, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Friday night is for setup and judges’ inspections from 6:30 to 9 pm. Saturday begins the tournament rounds, with the finals set for Saturday afternoon.

Both days of the event are free of charge and open to the public for viewing.

The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Illinois Championship Tournament is an intense event showcasing robots designed, built, and operated by teams of high school students. The competing robots represent the product of focused brainstorming, real-world teamwork, dedicated mentoring, and managing project deadlines.

During the competition, two alliances, each composed of two teams, play their robots against each other on 12-foot by 12-foot fields. A series of qualifying rounds played between randomly generated alliances determines the top four seeded individual teams. These top four individual teams will select two additional teams to form an alliance with for the elimination rounds. These four alliances compete in the semi-final matches, followed by the finals, where two alliances vie for the title of winning alliance.
