ECC was always close to home, and when I was younger, I took some reading classes to help strengthen my abilities. Years later, I returned not to just learn a simple ability but to learn skills that would help me in my career. I started by taking classes the summer before I started my culinary program. By taking ceramics, drawing, and business marketing, I was able to meet amazing teachers and I knew ECC is where I belong.
By being part of the great culinary program at ECC, I have learned so many new things, from new sauces, to new ways of breaking down meats, and to simple tips and tricks that make life easier in a kitchen. I learned the amazing skills of ice carving and how a chainsaw, a giant block of ice and a couple hours can take something plain and turn it into a work of art.
I was able to see another country’s beauty through the study abroad program, which helped me to realize food and friends are universal. By receiving three amazing scholarships I am able to walk out of ECC debt-free, knowing I will be able to start a great career without anything holding me back. I plan to travel the world and learn what food is really about, and ECC has really given me the skills to be able to do that.
ECC isn’t just a place to learn, it’s a place to grow.
