Apply as a Summer Only Student

ECC Admissions Live Chat

Taking a Few Summer Classes?

Take a class or two over the summer and transfer credits to your college or university. Applying to ECC is simple and free. Follow these steps to enroll.

Step 1: Apply for Admission

If you have graduated from ECC or have not taken classes in the last two years, you must reapply.

Summer students should confirm with their current college advisor which ECC course is equivalent to the courses they must complete. See what matches your particular school by visiting the Transferology Website if you attend a college/university in Illinois.

What's next? A detailed welcome letter will be sent to you once your application has been processed. The welcome letter outlines your next steps for completing your enrollment, so be sure to follow all the steps!

Step 2: Apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships

Get help paying for college by applying for financial aid and scholarships! ECC offers comprehensive financial aid options, including federal and state grants, scholarships, work-study, and loans. You should apply for financial aid, even if you think you are not eligible.

Financial aid and scholarships are available for adults, and the Alternative Application for State Aid is available for qualifying undocumented and transgender students.

What's next? Award notifications are made by the ECC Financial Aid & Scholarships Office via email.

Priority Processing Dates

Fall enrollment - July 1
Spring enrollment - November 1
Summer enrollment - April 1

You can still apply after these dates. If you apply after the priority deadline, set up a payment plan to hold your classes.

Step 3: Check for Prerequisites and Submit Transcripts

Review the Course Catalog by reviewing the prerequisites for the courses you are interested in. Prerequisites must be satisfied before registering for classes; those can be satisfied by:

  • An official or unofficial transcript from your current or previous college/university. Complete the Transcript Evaluation Request Form.
  • A high school transcript
  • ACT/SAT(PSAT) and/or AP exam scores
  • If you are currently enrolled at another college or university for a prerequisite class for the ECC course you want to take, include a copy of a current class schedule. A final grade report or updated transcript confirming successful completion must be submitted to accessecc@elgin.edu at least two (2) weeks before the beginning of the summer term to remain enrolled in the course.

Complete the Prerequisite Approval Request Form - PDF. All fields must be completed for the request to be processed. Attach the completed form and your transcripts or other documents in PDF format to an email and send them to accessecc@elgin.edu with 'Summer Enrollment' in the subject line.

What's next? A technical enrollment facilitator will contact you by email when your prerequisite approval request has been processed. This process may take up to 2-3 business days.

Step 4: Register for Classes

If your request is approved, register early to secure your spot!
